Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen - General Assault Badge, was created for non-infantry units of the German Army, which could not be awarded the infantry assault badge or the tank assault badge. The design of the badge was introduced on 1 June 1940, it is oval in shape with period tickets around the perimeter. The dominant part of the badge is a bayonet crossed with a pattern 24 grenade and an eagle clutching a swastika.

In order to be awarded the General Assault Badge, the awardee had to meet the following criteria:

  • Participation in three infantry or armored assaults or indirect assaults
  • Be wounded or receive a commendation for accomplishing the assigned tasks
  • Not being awarded an infantry assault badge
