Thirty years ago I was digging up a war plane near Mariánské Lázně. The aim was to find out what kind of machine it was and who was its pilot. We succeeded.

The downed war plane and the remains of the pilot were pulled out of the ground by the workers of the Suchdol museum twelve years ago. The wreckage was located in a field between Bělotín and Lučice in Hranice. The aircraft belonged to the 224th Battle Division of the 8th Air Army and was tasked with supporting the fighting Red Army.

After more than seventy years, Ensign John Henry Coates' relatives were finally able to bury his body. An RAF pilot was shot down during one of the missions in Italy. Archaeologists have found his remains with a damaged Spitfire plane near Venice.

The torso of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190, which crashed in August 1944, was discovered ten years ago near Deštná in the Jindřichův Hradec region. It was located under a layer of clay. According to historians, it was a unique find.

54 Spitfires of the Czechoslovak Fighter Wing landed at Ruzyně Airport in August 1945. They returned from their service in Great Britain. They were welcomed by thousands of people, not only from the capital.

Especially towards the end of the Second World War, the area of the Škodovka factory in Pilsen was the target of bomb attacks. However, on 16 April 1943, a mistake was made and bombs hit the nearby Dobřany, where a psychiatric hospital was located.
