12.2.2012 Golden necklace discovered in a swamp

The gold necklace was found by a prospector with a metal detector in the north of Ireland while searching his property. At first he didn't know what he had found, so he put the jewel in a drawer.

A unique Anglo-Saxon burial site has been found beneath a Cambridge student hall of residence

An early medieval cemetery with more than 60 graves and 700 preserved artefacts from the period between 400 and 650 AD has been discovered beneath a recently demolished university student dormitory. Iron Age structures and traces of Roman earthworks have also been identified on the site.

Five years ago, a pair of prospectors with metal detectors discovered a burial site in a field in Lancashire. It was in use from the late Neolithic to the Middle to Late Bronze Age. First they came across several artefacts.

Ten years ago, an unknown buyer auctioned off a Roman bronze helmet found by a pair of metal detectors for two million dollars. The original estimate was several times lower.

A unique sapphire ring was found by Michael Greenhorn of Clifton Moor, York. And in 2009, eight years ago, experts published further information about the jewel. They found it was apparently made in France.

5.2.2014 Jewellery declared a treasure

Two prospectors with metal detectors made an extraordinary find in 2012. They discovered 41 Bronze Age objects, including jewellery, in south-west England. Two years later, the artefacts were declared treasure by experts.

4.2.2012 Bronze treasure from Carmarthenshire

The jewellery and weapons are contained in a depot found by a metal detectorist near County Kidwelly. This was announced by the National Museum of Wales. The find was declared a treasure nine years ago.

3.2.2016 Medals from World War I

The medal from the First World War was found by three searchers in Wales. They discovered it while they were resting and waved a metal detector around, which gave off a strong signal.

Adam Day has only been searching with a metal detector for three years and has already found a gold ring in a field. Probably belonged to the bishop. It was auctioned off for thousands of pounds three years ago.

31.1.2012 Coins from the period of William the Conqueror

The unique silver coin was found nine years ago by a metal detector. The cent was struck during the reign of William the Conqueror, when coinage was booming. Seventy mints were in operation.
