Two unique medieval gold coins dating from the mid-14th century were discovered using a metal detector near Reepham in Norfolk County back in October 2019, but PAS archaeologists presented the find after its evaluation this week. They are rare Edward III coins from the harsh times when Europe was decimated by the plague. There are only 3 similar examples in English collections.

The internationally significant discovery of the grave of a young man shackled and chained up to 1,800 years old is the first of its kind in the UK and one of the few found in Europe. The slave was secured with massive locked iron shackles. According to experts, he was deliberately shackled and then thrown into a ditch outside the boundaries of a nearby cemetery.

Two friends - detectorists James Spark and Mark Didlick from York - found an 1,800-year-old Roman treasure in a field near Ryedale in North Yorkshire last May. A unique votive set of bronze busts of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius and the god Mars on horseback was found along with anotherwith other items, was auctioned for a sum that exceeded all expectations.
