A beautifully preserved gold Roman ring has been discovered in Brittany

Objects from the Late Bronze Age to the Middle Ages have been discovered in Pacé, France. Among the most interesting are early medieval Carolingian denarii and an exceptional Roman gold ring from the 2nd to 3rd centuries.

The secret of the Frankfurt silver amulet solved

In 2018, a 35 mm long silver amulet was discovered in a grave from the middle of the 3rd century. It took 6 years to decipher the inscription using the latest technology. The published text reveals entirely new and unexpected information. They push back the phase of early Christianity by at least 50 to 100 years, the artefact itself is the oldest evidence of Christianity north of the Alps.

Mummies with golden tongues

In the ancient city of Oxyrhynchus, about 150 km from Cairo, 52 mummies of the Ptolemaic dynasty were discovered.13 mummies carried golden tongues in their mouths, one had golden nail plates. Richly decorated tombs were also discovered, with amulets and other objects with ritual themes.

A 2,300-year-old haeron hid tombs with gold jewels

In October, the next phase of systematic archaeological research was completed at the site of Trapeza, about 8 kilometres south-west of Aegia, Greece. The survey revealed the purpose of the building, numerous statues as well as intact tombs with rich furnishings including beautiful gold jewellery.

While in ancient Greece and Rome the use of narcotics is documented by archaeologicaland written sources, the barbarian peoples outside the Roman Empire lacked any evidence. A new study by Andrzej Kokowski examined the tiny metal "spoons" on the belts of warriors from various parts of Europe, including the Czech Republic. Evidence suggests they may have been used to dispense and consume drugs.

A 5th century sacrificial site full of spears and swords

A set of Iron Age weapons was discovered near Hedensted, Denmark, during the construction of the E45 motorway. Nearly 200 well-preserved objects from the 5th century. A sword and several other objects from the Late Bronze Age and earlier Iron Age were discovered in a swamp near Veksø, Denmark. The bronze sword with iron rivets is a unique evidence of the transition period. It was found by detectorist Claus Falsby on his first detector expedition.
