Instructions for the coin catalog
Although we try to make catalog control as intuitive as possible, we understand that it may not be clear to everyone. This guide is for those of you who need to clarify some of the features of the catalog. Read on to find out...
Coin catalog
There are thousands of coins in our catalog and we are constantly adding new ones. We hope the catalog will be a good helper in determining coin finds.
How to work with the coin catalog
For the easiest possible search, you have several drop-down bars available. I will try to describe everything from the first to the last.
If you select any field (e.g. select Rome in the territory), the other fields will regenerate and offer only those options that will lead to finding at least 1 coin. (In this case, the denomination will be limited to Denarius, Dupondius, etc.) As a result, you can hardly find a coin with the wrong combination of search parameters.
Territory: You can select a territory. Only those monarchs, denominations and coin materials that are relevant to the selected territory will be displayed for selection.
Sovereign/ruler: In this field you can choose a monarch (e.g. Francis I, Western Celts, etc.). Only coins issued for the given monarch will be displayed in the catalog. If you are not sure who issued the coin, leave the field blank "all monarchs".
Year: If you managed to decipher the year of minting on the coin, just enter this year in the first box. If you want to display coins for a specific period (eg 1856-1872), fill in both fields. The coins that are displayed to you will always fall under the specified time period.
Denomination: If you have entered the name of a monarch or a period of a republic, you have the advantage that you will only see coins issued by that monarch or republic. Otherwise, all variants of coin names in the catalog are displayed. You can always orient yourself according to the actual description of the coin (the name that is stamped on the coin, e.g. 20 Heller - in brackets you will find the translated variant "twenty haler").
You will probably be surprised by the number of different names and denominations issued by individual rulers, but it should always be borne in mind that these are all coins issued during their reign and this list includes all other hereditary countries (e.g. Francis Joseph I - centesimo, lira, etc.)
Material: Similar rules apply to the type of material as to the face value. If you enter the name of the monarch, only the types of metals that were used for minting during their reign will be displayed. Here I would like to draw attention to several types of alloys, which are always marked as a list of individual metals used (eg: tin - copper - zinc). If you are not sure about the composition of the coin, be sure to leave the box blank.
Size: For illegible coins, you can enter the size of the coin in millimeters. If the coin was badly damaged in circulation, always choose a certain tolerance (eg 20 mm - 24 mm)
Weight: Same option as size. As you can make both weighing errors and the coin can be wiped in circulation, always choose a certain tolerance (eg 3.50g - 4g)
Only found: Checking will filter out only those coins that some LovecPokladu.cz users actually found and uploaded as their finding.
Sort by: Here you can sort the found coins either from the last entered one or from the oldest year.
Direct selection: Each coin in the catalog has its own assigned number. If you want to return to one given coin several times, it is good to make a note of this number. This gives you the opportunity to significantly speed up its retrieval.
If you have already found the coin you are looking for, you can open a preview of it.
In the detail of the coin, you will find all the information about the coin (weight, size, embossing, etc.) and you can also enlarge the photo of the denomination.
The second identification option in detail is the finding states. Coins with different degrees of damage in the description will be gradually added to each coin in the catalog. This will help you to realistically assess the condition of your coin.
