Graves with the remains of 8 000 people were found by investigators in Poland near the site of the Soldau concentration camp. The Germans wanted to hide the burial pits. They burned the bodies, buried them and planted trees. The victims included members of the Polish elite, soldiers, resistance fighters and Jews.

Incredibly lucky was the couple who discovered 264 gold coins under the floor of a house in the North Yorkshire village of Ellerby. The depot was in a pot. The finders plan to sell the treasure at auction for at least £250,000.

Archaeologists hardly find any graves from the Latin period, which is why the find in Dubany in Pardubice was truly exceptional. They found a 2200-year-old grave of a Celtic warrior there. In addition to a nearly complete skeleton, it also contained an iron sword and several bronze rings.

A Germanic grave full of silver and gold artefacts was discovered in the eighteenth century by two peasants in the eastern Slovak village of Ósztrópatak when they went to church. The grave contained beautiful objects such as gold pins, bracelets and necklaces. However, some of the artefacts were melted down in 1799. The treasure weighed over thirteen kilos.

A gold ring and a buckle from the period of the Migration of Peoples were discovered in Rakovník by two brothers working with archaeologists. The jewellery is inlaid with Bohemian garnets. They are currently on display in the museum as part of a new exhibition.

During earthworks in the Slovak village of Bíňa, Jozef Paulík discovered 107 gold coins. They come from the Byzantine Empire from the 5th century AD. The collection included coins of the emperors Arcadius, Valentinian III and Theodosius II. According to experts, they probably came to the territory of today's Slovakia thanks to a nomadic tribe of Huns.
