Military, so-called "regimental" buttons until 1806

If you noticed, I will update the table of military buttons with numbers and letters of the Austrian Empire every now and then.I want to eventually get this table up to 1918. But after this task is completed, I would like to turn around and move the table of military buttons up to 1750.

There is a great unknown in this period and that is the so-called "Regimental" buttons.These are buttons made of either pewter, bronze, or brass (thin moulding) that have one or more letters on them, which may still be accompanied by some kind of crown.

There is no material for these buttons, so tracing their owners by normal methods is almost impossible.

But there is the word almost, There is one chance, one might say a one shot chance.That chance is your finds, their location and the various statistical tools I use in my work and would like to use in tracking down the owners of these buttons.

Below you will find an outline of what these buttons look like ... I would need you, if you own these buttons, to take a picture of them and throw them to a hunter with the condition that they can be located. I just need an indication at the county level.

If you put a more precise localization in the comment I would be grateful. Anyway, the information about the type of button and the place of finding is important for me (without location it is meaningless for me = I have no usable data).

So far I have seen about 30k buttons on the hunter, I have collected the available data but I have little of it. So I need more data 🙂 .

So please, once you finish reading and want to help Milan, please go through the finds and if you own the knob and know where it came from shove it on the site. I will keep collecting and updating the data 🙂

Possible combinations that I know of are e.g. A,B,BB,CC,CK,ES,FK,FS,GHZ,GRC,GIK,IS,SATZ,GFM,FG,PC,MT,GG,W,HD,K,MOK,S,L,LL,MEK,.... and definitely more.

If you have any of these extra knobs and don't stick to anything much, put it in the comments and we'll work something out. I would love to adopt some as well. I'd also like to do a broader material analysis on the knobs, both to know the material and to see which ones have a common manufacturer, etc. (I assume these buttons have been made for at least 60 years).

Personally, I'm hoping we can find some information together that was around over 250 years ago and is gone and discover something that people have long forgotten.
