Macro Kruzer setup guide

I decided to take another look at another detector from the Nokta/Makro family. Ignoring the new box design for waterproofing reasons, it is again evident here that each manufacturer retains their indelible signature, which is good and makes it much easier for existing customers to upgrade to better models within the brand. However, technically there are a few significant changes, and this of course tempts a little comparison with the popular Racer .

Controls

The controls are a bit based on the popular Racer II and again are quite cleverly laid out this time in 3 boxes. Another difference is the absence of the classic PP and GB levers under the unit, these had to disappear due to the waterproofing of all the electronics and these functions have been moved under the buttons on the main unit.

Power supply

Like the more advanced Anfibio model, the Kruzer will no longer need to keep buying and changing batteries, which also saves quite a bit of money after a while of operation. The new detector has an integrated Li-Pol battery that lasts up to 19 hours of operation. This solution seems to me to be the happiest for waterproof construction, because it eliminates the obligation to clean and check all rubber seals every time the batteries are changed. This also minimizes the risk of accidental water ingress if you fold the gasket wrong or forget to clean the area around the gasket. The battery in the detector is of course replaceable if necessary.

It will also be possible to connect a conventional power bank to the detector and recharge the detector in the field, or a block for pencil batteries.

Detector electronics

As I already mentioned the detector is waterproof and completely submersible to a depth of 5m. This of course had to be adapted to the detector design. The whole detector has only two connectors, a probe connector and a second connector which is also a connector for charging the detector and a connector for connecting waterproof headphones, both connectors of course have IP 68 protection.

Detector design

Although it doesn't seem so at first glance, there are a few changes in the detector's design. A new type of armrest has been used with a place to store a power bank or a pencil battery pack, just like the Anfibio model. Also, the foam handle of the detector, which would probably not withstand prolonged use in water, has been replaced by a stronger rubber one. And lastly, a slight lightening has been made to the bottom rod which is now made of carbon fibre, which in turn will save some grams.

Probe

The detector is basically equipped with a classic 28 cm probe, which you know for example from Nokta Impact. The construction of the probe is again a bit more technologically advanced, and while the Racer used vacuum forming technology to produce the probe, the Kruzer probe is already made by injection moulding and is noticeably lighter. The narrow profile of the probe also provides good lateral separation.

Detector behaviour

As I wrote above here it is nice to see how you each manufacturer maintains its individuality similar to e.g. Apple and Samsung. The whole detector handles similarly to previous models. The basic functions and their settings have also remained similar. A small change occurred in the iron resolution Tone break is recommended here to be set around the value 15(factory setting) which brings a finer distribution of the iron into about 15 segments. The detector's tone has remained very similar, so if you have had some experience with Nokta/Makro you will not need to re-listen to the detector. Another change I observed was in the DEEP mode which seemed a bit sharper and compared to the classic double tonenew mode I thought the difference was really more pronounced than when comparing DEEP mode with Racer. What signal that was at the limit of range in the classic dual tone mode was then audible as a hammer blow in DEEP :D. Also new in the menu is a new 4 tone mode.
