LP ZERO II - the last true analogue powerhouse

Categories: LP ZERO metal detector

As digitalization progresses and analogue components become more and more expensive, it is virtually impossible to find a detector without digital signal processing. The LP Zero is one of the last of the biggies on the market. Moreover, it is so exceptional in its class up to about 10 000 CZK that it can beat a long line of classic digital VLF detectors literally head on. For searchers who want to take a break from the ubiquitous LCDs, it is simply a balm for the soul.

New coils for LP ZERO

The two probes, 24 cm and 33 cm, have been developed primarily to work better in mineralized soils and also in soils with high iron content. In fact, it could be said that the worse the conditions, the greater the difference in range between the old range of coils and the new ones. In ideal conditions, then, the difference between the range of the original 30 cm probe and the new 33 cm probe is minimal. However, the difference between the older 23 cm coil and the new 24 cm coil is greater, even in soils with almost no mineralization.

New design

The type of construction has remained the same, the classic telescope. However, there has been a change in material, with the manufacturer now using at least one grade higher quality, and the same applies to the guide rod locks. Even though such steep guide rods were not bad, this is a big step forward.

Detector behaviour old version versus new

The new version is a bit quieter, while maintaining both sensitivity and range. However, these modifications were made a bit before the new coils were even fitted. They also make it more pleasant to work in heavily mineralized soils. Again, there is less difference in soils with minimal mineralization than in places where soil conditions are difficult.

LP ZERO II WS metal detector controls

A description of the controls and their settings in each step.

SENSITIVITY - the sensitivity setting affects the range of the detector and also partly the size of the targets received. The ideal setting is always such that the detector is quiet while the sensitivity is at the highest possible level. If you watch the video, you will see the difference between the setting at 8, where no threshold tone is heard, and the setting a hair higher at the beginning of the amplifier array

DISCRIMINATION - setting the level of rejection of unwanted metals. The recommended setting is at number 2. At that setting you will very effectively eliminate most ferrous waste.

In addition, the discriminator has a dual functionality. In the Audio setting, discriminated items will give no response. In the Iron Audio setting, they will respond with a deep tone.

ON/OFF and VOLUME - a combined control that turns the detector on and controls the volume at the same time.

Turn the detector on by turning the dial from left to right. When turned, a click is heard. The set volume level is up to the preference of each searcher. A high volume setting gives a little more modulation of the signal.

AUDIO and IRON AUDIO OPERATING MODES - In AUDIO mode, the detector has a single tone response to all targets. When the discriminator is set to the minimum value, you then operate in ALL METAL mode without any filtering.
In IRON AUDIO mode, all discriminated targets will have a deep tone and received targets will have a high tone. The huge advantage is in the variability of such a setup, where you can adjust the discriminator to affect the Audio response with respect to the location you are in.

IRON AUDIO - The loudness of the iron audio response can be a problem in lots of iron-laden locations. It is not only the comfort of the search, but also the practical part, where by reducing the intensity of the iron response we are able to achieve significantly better separation properties of the detector.

The choice of the volume level is up to each searcher. It can only be recommended that it should always be slightly lower than the response for non-ferrous metals

HEADPHONE AND REPRODUCTOR MODE SWITCH - On the back of the battery pack you will find: on the far left, the hip headphone switch, in the middle the charger input and on the left the conventional headphone input. SP - speaker on, WS - wireless headphones on

Pricing: as is customary nowadays, we are getting inquiries about pricing. No wonder, as everything goes up. Unless some extraordinary event happens, prices should stay as they are until at least the beginning of autumn.
