Liquer factory Heksch

Categories: Finds and rescue research in the Czech Republic

We were on a trip with my dear half near Ceska Kamenica and I found an old dump. And on it, among other things (see photos), this beautiful shard. And the story gradually started to unfold. In the relief of the glass is cast: Liquor fabrik, M. Heksch B. Kamnitz (Böhmische Kamnitz - Česká Kamenice). So I googled to see if I could find what the whole bottle looked like. I didn't find it, but the genealogy of the Heksch family from Ceska Kamenica came up. And the only two descendants there had a contact. So I wrote to them, and one descendant (well, I mean descendant) got in touch. He and his mother live in London and, like me, were thrilled not only by the beauty of the shard but also by the unexpected discovery of a piece of their family history. They wrote to me:

My mother is particularly grateful for you providing us with a little piece of our family puzzle. Only my grandfather, his sister and one cousin survived the holocaust, so she grew up with one side of her family missing and the people remaining didn't really want to remember or talk about their past, so we've done some research ourselves and it's fascinating to have another fragment to add.

Eventually, I found them the two descriptive numbers where Mr. Heksch lived in Kamenica from old scans of the tradesmen's list. And she sent me a scan of a flyer they found somewhere on the web, that's all they have. Well, you tell me, could I not send it to them? Well, I couldn't. It's on its way to them, so I hope they send me a picture of the only physical reminder of half their family on display on the family mantel.

PS - my dad is into old watches and he thinks the movement is extremely rare, it may even be baroque. He said this watch could have been used to buy a small farm. He said it was definitely in gold (which of course wasn't there). Maybe the Germans took the watch from a prisoner, peeled off the golden casing and threw it away. What a pity! But if not, I couldn't find it, so good for me.

So now it's in a new home. They don't have a fireplace, so they say "English garden flowers would be a bit of England in the photo.":-)

Dobře Ty 👏🏻👍🏻

Je tolik příběhů, které nikdo nenapsal... Obzvlášť od nás ze Sudet. Lidé s příběhy té doby už skoro žádní nežijí. Díky za tenhle.

Jsem z okolí a dávám palec hore. Jak píše GM4PRO. Zdejší krajina po válce začala psát nový příběh.....a my nový badatelé tu máme pořádný kus práce 8-)

K tvému počinu musím napsat - dobrá práce, pane ;-)
