Buckles are one of the most numerous types of finds discovered by Roman-era archaeology in Central Europe. They were not only a functional part of clothing, but also a fashion element, a symbol of social status and belonging to a community. We find here pins produced both on the territory of the Roman Empire and the products of Germanic craftsmen. As a fashion element, the popularity of different forms changed rapidly, which is why today we know a wide range of buckle shapes and types.
The lecture of the leading specialist Prof. Eduard Droberjar will help those interested to orient themselves in this variety and provide a clear introduction to the issue of Roman-era clasps.
