Hradiště Štěpánovská hora and Hradiště
Categories: Castles, strongholds and extinct places , Finds and rescue research in the Czech Republic , Book reviews
We would like to draw your attention to two beautiful books that have recently been published. The excavations of both hillforts were carried out by searchers from Seveřanu and Archeo LP 2010. And so we have again contributed a little to the general knowledge.
The new publications provide answers to the questions of where the highest Bronze Age hillfort in Bohemia and what "terrible" purpose this mystical site served. You will also learn where in Teplice you can find one of the largest Bronze Age fortresses in Bohemia and what caused the fall of this impregnable fortress. You can buy a limited number of books at the Teplice Museum reception. We do not send books by cash on delivery! Thank you for your understanding. Do not hesitate, the books are on sale, unfortunately only a few copies.
Hradiště Hradiště. Results of archaeological non-destructive research (2017-2020)
The book presents the results of the non-destructive archaeological research that took place at the Hradiště Hradiště hillfort in 2017-2020 as part of an intensive interdisciplinary collaboration. Hradiště Hradiště represents the highest hillfort from the Younger Bronze Age. The hillfort itself was described in detail and archaeologically investigated using microprobe and metal detector, the work ofThis resulted in the acquisition of suitable dating material, which generally coincides with the findings of the archaeological research from 1951. Geophysical and geochemical surveys were also carried out on the site and the hillfort was also assessed in terms of hydrology, pedology, geology and astronomy. The fortification system of the hillfort was analysed in detail using lidar images.
The bronze artefacts were also analysed for their elemental composition and the traseological traces were also examined.

Štěpánovská hora. Results of archaeological non-destructive research (2016-2020)
The book presents the results of the non-destructive archaeological research that took place at the Štěpánovská hora hillfort in 2016-2020. A number of experts from many scientific institutions participated in this research. Štěpánovská hora represents one of the largest Late Bronze Age fortresses in Bohemia. It has stood, somewhat unfairly, in the shadow of the more touristic Hradiště, which is situated opposite. Its importance is further underlined by the presence of water sources, to which considerable attention has been paid. The aim of the research was to capture in as much detail as possible the form and present condition of the fortress, to determine its age, to try to outline the earlier form of the fortification system and to determine the purpose of the fortress. The research itself was conducted mainly by non-destructive methods, a detailed surface survey was carried out on the site, including geophysical methods, archaeobotanical samples were also examined and the hillfort was also assessed from the point of view of hydrology, pedology, geology or astronomy. The whole area of the hillfort has also been analysed in great detail on the basis of lidar images.
The book also deals with the issue of the so-called 'sealed mounds' and publishes the artefacts found. The bronze objects have been analysed in terms of traseology and elemental composition.
