Exhibition of the oldest jewellery and body ornaments
Categories: Invitations
An interesting exhibition was prepared by the Moravian Museum in Brno. Visitors can see the oldest jewellery and body ornaments. Original Palaeolithic artefacts, mainly from the Gravetian and Magdalenian periods, will be on display.
The exhibition The Oldest Jewellery and Body Ornaments will present jewellery, ornaments and decorations of the human body from the Paleolithic period from the MoravianCzech sites, giving a glimpse into the life of people who lived in the same area as we do today, only about 30,000 years earlier. The originals of all the Paleolithic Venuses found in Bohemia and Moravia, including the most famous - the Venus of Věstonice - will be on display.
Decorating your body is one of the universal human gestures. Indirect evidence suggests that people also did so on their bare bodies, using paint, tattoos or scarring. The story of the earliest jewellery and body adornments will unfold in interaction with an exhibited reconstruction of a Palaeolithic triple grave from Dolní Věstonice and an anthropological reconstruction of a shaman from the LAR MZM workshop.
The exhibition at the Moravian Museum begins on 19 August and runs until 26 February. For more info, visit www.mzm.cz.
