Beautiful jewels were collected in the early twentieth century by an unknown woman in Great Britain. She hid beautiful diamond pieces worth tens of thousands of pounds in a bank vault. The family only discovered the treasure after her death.

The stunning collection of gems, which were forgotten in a bank vault for over thirty years, were worth over a hundred thousand pounds, according to experts. The emeralds, sapphire rubies and diamonds were left under lock and key in the bank vault by the owner sometime around 1980. But then she apparently forgot about them.

It wasn't until the family was dealing with family matters eleven years ago that the vault was finally opened. The treasure was probably accumulated by an unknown owner in the early 20th century. After her death, the family acquired 30 necklaces, earrings and a god. The new owners wished to remain anonymous.

They wanted to raise money for the jewels, so they put them up for auction. Initial estimates put the collection at £100,000. But at auction, it was expected to sell for much more. Among the star items of the collection were an emerald and diamond "Belle Epoque" necklace and a pair of earrings worth thirty thousand pounds.

A Victorian ruby and diamond necklace was worth twenty thousand pounds, while a Georgian ruby and diamond brooch was worth over ten thousand pounds. One of the more eye-catching pieces was a beautiful garnet necklace.

Miranda Bingham of Lawrences' Auctioneers Somerset said it was the most interesting collection of jewellery and gems they had ever come across. "It is remarkable that such pieces could have been left in a bank vault for so long. We don't know exactly where these beautiful pieces came from. It's beautiful jewellery work. Whoever amassed this collection must have bought it from the best places and from people who knew what they were doing," she added.

The family had no idea what they might be worth. "We hope they're in for a very pleasant surprise when they sell. The gold and diamond market is very dynamic at the moment and exceptional rubies and emeralds like this will attract international attention," Miranda Bingham believed before the auction began.
