The bronze treasure was found nine years ago in a field near Líšt'any. It contained 105 objects from the older Bronze Age. They come from the so-called Unetic culture, i.e. from about four thousand years ago. Thedepot was discovered by a pair of prospectors with metal detectors.
Specifically, the hoard included eight flat axes and two chisels, 62 complete oval mushroom-shapedand seven broken bits of mushrooms, as well as ten massive oval bracelet mushrooms and 16 spiral bracelets.
The bronze objects were found nine years ago in the northern part of the village of Líšt'any in the Lounsko region with a metal detector by Miloslav Sládek and Radek Sismilch. The archaeologists appreciated the discovery. The finders received a financial reward for handing over the archaeological objects.
"I would like to thank the finders for handing over this treasure and not keeping it, so it did not end up on the black market. The Depot has thus significantly enriched the collections of the Louny Museum," said Jiří Matyáš, director of the Louny Regional Museum, at the opening.
Four years ago, the treasure was exhibited by the Regional Museum in Louny. "Archaeologists say it is a depot. It dates back to the Bronze Age, to the time of the Únětice culture, which is very interesting. That's why we decided to make a whole exhibition about it," archaeologist and exhibition curator Lenka Čtvrtníčková explained at the time.
According to Čtvrtníčková, the number of objects is unique and it is one of the largest finds in Northwest Bohemia in more than a hundred years.
Searchers retrieved the objects but handed it over to experts and also showed them the site of the find. The experts were thus able to subject the objects themselves, as well as the site and the surrounding area, to further examination. "If the finders had not been so responsible, the set of objects would have disappeared irretrievably," Čtvrtníčková noted.
For what reason people deposited the depots in the ground is not entirely clear. The most common explanation is that they may have been banks of some kind and the objects were paid for or further processed. They may also have been offerings to the deities of the time or preparation for the afterlife.
