30. 3.1935 Košice golden treasure

To this day, it is one of the greatest coin treasures ever found in the world. And that, although it was discovered in 1935. It contains 2920 gold coins, three medals and a gold Renaissance chain. All these gems were found in the foundations of the financial headquarters building in Košice.

Workers found this wonderful treasure in the foundations of house number 68. It was stored in a copper loaf-shaped box, which was composed of two interlocking parts. It was later discovered that the workers had kept a few coins and tried to sell them. The goldsmith, to whom they were offered, reported the man to the police. He didn't think the amount the pair demanded for coins.

The workers were detained by police. Instead of a reward, the treasure finders received a punishment. The value of the depot is a huge, literally unimaginable amount. Experts also examined whether it was a numismatic collection or personal property of a natural person. Analyzes showed that the treasure included commonly used currency that was in circulation. The depot in question gathered gradually. It is therefore not a numismatic collection, but the property of a person from a high social class.

The whole treasure consists of gold. It is a unique numismatic discovery on a European and global scale. The oldest coins are fifteen pieces of ducats from the reign of King Sigismund (1387 to 1437), which were minted in various mints. The youngest are the ducats of King Leopold (1655 to 1705) from 1870 from the Kremnica Mint. A total of 28 pieces. Geographically, the treasure contains several types of coins from different parts of Europe, which were minted in 81 mints.

Hungary is the most numerous with 1187 coins. Coins of almost all Hungarian rulers from the 15th to the 17th century are represented in the treasure. Among the rare ones are coins with countermarks (note: small marks additionally embossed into the coin. The mark used to be in the form of a number, image or emblem.) From the Polish city of Gdańsk from 1453 and then at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries.

The second most numerous group are Dutch coins in the number of 1015 pieces. It may come as a surprise, but Dutch currency has been the most popular and used due to its quality. Next is Transylvania with 251 coins, Bohemia with 26 coins, Austrian territories with 24 coins, Salzburg with 31 coins, Silesia with 22 coins, Poland with 38 coins, German territories with Danish, Swedish and Apennine peninsulas 22 coins, Spain with 13 coins. and the treasure was contained in a stature from Thrace.

Another part of the treasure consists of three medals. The oldest is from 1525 from the Kremnica Mint and was minted in honor of King Louis II. (1516-1526). The author is unknown. The other two are also from Kremnica. From the years 1541 and 1544, their author is the Renaissance medalist Krištof Fuessel.

The last part of the treasure is the gold chain. It is a jewelry jewelry product with a length of 214 centimeters and a weight of 587.14 grams. The author cannot determine exactly. It probably dates from the 16th or 17th century. Today, Košice Treasure is located in the East Slovak Museum, locked in a room with double armored doors.

Majitel pozemku, nalezcovia a stat. Rovnakym dielom.
Kedze nalezcovia si cast uchmatli a neskor sa snazili ich spenazit na viacerych miestach,
tak boli bonznuty a trest bol, ze ich podiel z nalezu pripadol statu.
Netreba dodavat, ze suma o ktoru sa pripravili, bola uz v tej dobe astronomicka.
Doslova by ich vystrelila do vyssej vrstvy tej doby.
Vidiet ten poklad v muzeu nazivo je brutalny zazitok.
