Workers who repaired the attic of a house in Champagne, France, remained nine years old. Suddenly, gold coins began to fall on them. In the end, there were 497 of them and their value was estimated at almost one million dollars.

The owner of the vineyard hired a whole team of builders for the reconstruction. He cared a lot about doing a good job. When they embarked on the modernization of the attic, they were not surprised with their own eyes. From the attic, gold American coins were poured on the workers.

The treasure contained exactly 497 coins. It was located in the attic of an old building in the village of Les Riceys in the famous Champagne region. The village is surrounded by vineyards. Rosé wines and champagne are made from local grapes. Directly in the village there are several wine bars and the Renaissance church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens, which is characterized by stained glass windows from the 16th century.

Each coin has a face value of $ 20. They were minted between 1851 and 1928. According to experts, their equivalent would be seventeen kilograms of gold. At the time of the discovery, they were worth 980 thousand US dollars, which was 622 thousand British pounds.

At that time, the media also published the name of the happy owner of an old property in Champagne. They were Francois Lange, who was involved in the production of wine, including the famous champagne, which is known around the world. Experts and the owner of the house tried to find out how the coins could get into the attic. In vain. They could not solve this mystery.

They only managed to find out one piece of information. Namely, who was the original owner of the old mansion. It was a wine producer who traded with Great Britain and the USA in the 1930s. Maybe the coins belonged to him, too.

Lange was really pleased with the discovery, and even produced a special edition of wine in honor of this important event. "It was really unbelievable. One of the workers buried the crowbar in the ceiling and gold coins began to pour, "said Lange, who is the company's director of Alexandre Bonner Champagne.

He lost half of the treasure, the other to the workers who worked on the reconstruction and found coins in the attic…
