8.6.793 Viking raids into Western Europe began

Vikings sacked the monastery of Lindisfarne in northern England in early June 793. Some of the monks were impaled on swords, others drowned, and still others were led away in chains. This attack began the Viking raids on western Europe.

5.6.1436 Compact concludes the Hussite wars

At the beginning of June 1436, a congress began in Jihlava to finally put an end to the protracted Hussite wars. The parties concerned finally came to an agreement and the Hussites accepted Sigismund as King of Bohemia. He apparently did not expect this himself, as he did not bring the crown jewels.

1.6.1421 The lords rejected Sigismund as king

At a meeting in Čáslav at the beginning of June 1421, the Bohemian and Moravian lords rejected Sigismund as king. At that time, preparations for the Second Crusade to Bohemia were already in full swing.

31.5. 1819 Battle of the Four Kings of Haná

There is no mention of it in any history textbook, although the battle of the four Haná kings resulted in thirteen deaths and dozens of wounded. It took place at the end of May 1819.

30 May 1434 Battle of Lipan

The last great Hussite battle took place on 30 May 1434. Nearly two thousand people died at Lipany, including Prokop Holý. The result of the clash opened the way for Sigismund to the Czech throne.

21.5. 1809 Battle of Aspern and Essling

It was the first battle in which Napoleon suffered defeat. The clash took place in and around the Austrian villages of Aspern and Essling. On the 21st and 22nd of May 1809.

20.5. 1420 Hussite army led by Žižka invaded Prague

Jan Žižka, who left a large garrison in Tábor, set out with nine thousand fighters towards Prague. On the way, he captured and burned Benesov, although he faced resistance. He also scattered the royal army and on 20 May 1420 arrived in Prague, where he captured Štvanice.

19.5.1643 Battle of Rocroi

It was part of the Thirty Years' War. It ranks among the most important clashes, as the weaker French army won against the stronger Spanish. The Battle of Rocroi took place in May 1643.

17.5.1742 Battle of Chotusice

The Austrian army suffered a crushing defeat at the Battle of Chotusice on 17 May 1742. Tens of thousands of men lost their lives. Maria Theresa had to give up her beloved Silesia.

6 May 1757 Battle of Sterbohol

The Battle of Sterbohol was the second largest engagement of the Seven Years' War. It saw the Prussian army of Frederick II and the Habsburg army led by Prince Charles of Lorraine. It took place on 6 May 1757.
