USS Nevada

About 120 kilometres southwest of Pearl Harbor, underwater archaeologists have discovered the wreck of the legendary USS Nevada. It served in the US Navy for 35 years, eventually sinking after nuclear testing.

27 May 1942 Assassination of Reinhard Heydrich

Reinhard Heydrich was a fanatical Nazi and the third most important man in Hitler's Germany. He even had an SS-3 license plate on his Mercedes. He planned the liquidation of the Czech nation, instead he was himself liquidated on May 27, 1942 by a pair of assassins.

18.5. 1938 German troops appeared at the border

The first agency report that German troops were massing in Saxony and Bavaria near the Czechoslovak border came on 18 May 1938. Whether they were planning to attack at that time is still a matter of speculation.

16.5.1945 President Beneš returned from exile in London

President Edvard Beneš returned from exile in London a hero, greeted by crowds of people. He had to go abroad after he gave up his post as head of state in October 1938 because of the Munich Agreement.

10 May 1940 The Battle of France began

The main goal of Hitler's westward campaign was to win France, on whose side many soldiers from the former Czechoslovakia and Poland fought. However, Germany was successful and took other countries as well. It launched its long-awaited offensive on 10 May 1940.

7. 5. 1765

7 May 1765 HMS Victory was launched

An incredible 255 HMS Victory are in the service of the British Navy. She took part in both the Battle of Trafgar and the Battle of Cape St Vincent. She was launched on May 7, 1765.
