17.7.1918 Bolsheviks executed Tsar Nicholas II and his family

In mid-July 1918, the Bolsheviks executed the Russian Tsar Nicholas II, who was the first to die. Only then his wife and five children. The massacre ended in chaotic gunfire until the last victims fell.

2.7. 1917 Battle of Zborov

During the Battle of Zborov, the Czechoslovak Legions were able to make their first significant appearance on the Eastern Front. They became a symbol of exemplary heroism.

9 May 1915 Battle of Arras Czechoslovak Legionnaires

By their courage, the Czech legionaries at the Battle of Arras also drew other soldiers to the attack. However, due to heavy casualties, the Nazdar Company practically ceased to exist. To this day, however, a monument commemorates it in France. The fighting began at 10 a.m. on May 9, 1915.

4 May 1919 Milan Rastislav Štefánik died tragically

He was an astronomer, doctor of philosophy, politician and co-founder of Czechoslovakia. During the First World War he organized the Czechoslovak Legions in Serbia. Milan Rastislav Štefánik died after a plane crash on May 4, 1919.

2 May 1915 Battle of Gorlice

The combined German-Austrian forces succeeded in paralysing the advancing Russian army in the east in the spring of 1915, one of the most important moments of the First World War. The key battle took place at Gorlice.

26.4. 1917 Hunger demonstration in Prostějov

Critical food shortages caused so-called hunger storms during the First World War, as most of the food went to the front. So people took to the streets to demonstrate. Some of them were shot. In Prostějov on 26 April 1917, 23 locals lost their lives.

9 April 1865 General Erich Ludendorff is born

He considered the Freemasons to be the architects of Germany's defeat in the First World War, and even sympathised with the NSDAP. General Erich Ludendorff was unable to acknowledge his share of the blame, which was evident in his war memoirs. He was born on 9 April 1865.

26.3. 1891 General Vojtěch Boris Luža

He was the only Czechoslovak general to fall during the Second World War with a gun in his hand. To this day he is one of the most prominent natives of Uherský Brod. Legionnaire Vojtěch Boris Luža was born on 26 March 1891.

19.3. 1883 - General Joseph Warren Stilwell

He served in the US Army during both world wars. He disliked the British and earned the nickname Vinegar Joe. Joseph Warren Stilwell was born March 19, 1883.
