6.12.1916 Masaryk sentenced to death

Kramář, Rašín and some others were sentenced to death for treason. A year after them, Masaryk himself was sentenced in absentia. He was granted amnesty in 1917.

3.12.1918 Pogrom in the Jewish ghetto in Holešov

The incident in Holešov in December 1918 was the last Czech pogrom. Even members of the newly entered Czechoslovak army took part in the violence. Hugo Gretzer and Herman Grünbau lost their lives.

Nazdar Company was the first Czech national unit, formed on 31 August 1914 and was assigned as the 1st Company of Battalion C of the Marching Regiment of the Foreign Legion. It had 250 men divided into four platoons and was commanded by French Captain Marie Léon Joseph Sallé.

28.8. 1914 First Battle of Helgoland Bay

The Battle of Helgoland Bay was part of the First World War. The Royal Navy attacked on 28 August 1914. Precise British fire soon sent two German ships to the bottom before reinforcements arrived. The fighting ended in a British victory.

23.8. 1914 Battle of Tannenberg

The Battle of Tannenberg was a huge disaster for the Russians. The Russian 2nd Army lost 125,000 men, while the German losses were "only" 15,000. When Samsonov realized his defeat, he committed suicide.

12.8. 1914 Volunteers living founded the Czech Companion

The Czech Companion was formed in August 1914, its base consisted of Czechs, citizens of Austria-Hungary who worked in Russia, and Czech settlers, especially from Volhynia and the Caucasus.By the end of 1915, 2,225 volunteers had joined this "unit".

19.7. 1883 Legionnaire Josef Jiří Švec was born

Josef Jiří Švec became one of the icons of the first Czechoslovak foreign resistance. The native could not bear the weight of the moment and shot himself on October 25 at three o'clock in the morning.
