11.12. 1941 Germany and Italy declared war on the USA

On December 8, 1941, Congress declared war on Japan at Roosevelt's suggestion. On December 11, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States in accordance with the provisions of the 1940 Pact of the Three Powers. This created a major global conflict.

Divers found the Enigma in a fishing net

German divers from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), searching for discarded fishing nets in the Baltic Sea, came across a surprising thing. From the water they pulled out a rare Enigma cipher machine used by the Nazi army during World War II.

7.12.1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor

At dawn on December 7, 1941, the first wave of Japanese aircraft took off from aircraft carriers 400 miles north of Hawaii. The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.

6.12.1916 Masaryk sentenced to death

Kramář, Rašín and some others were sentenced to death for treason. A year after them, Masaryk himself was sentenced in absentia. He was granted amnesty in 1917.

Soviet troops under the command of Zhukov launch a counter-offensive on 5 December 1941, pushing the Germans back eighty kilometres and saving the capital.

4.12.1916 Jaromír Nechanský was born

Major Jaromír Nechanský was one of the most interesting personalities of the anti-Nazi and anti-communist resistance. He was a member of the Platinum-Pewter paratroop. After World War II, he was condemned and executed.

3.12.1918 Pogrom in the Jewish ghetto in Holešov

The incident in Holešov in December 1918 was the last Czech pogrom. Even members of the newly entered Czechoslovak army took part in the violence. Hugo Gretzer and Herman Grünbau lost their lives.

30 November 1938 Emil Hácha elected President

The obedient official Emil Hácha bowed to the authorities of the Czech political scene at a time when no one was too eager for the presidency. After the cession of large border areas to Hitler's Germany in early October 1938, the situation in the country was difficult.

24.11.1941 The first transport of Jews to Terezín left

The first transport to Terezín arrived on 24 November 1941. The final solution was to be the liquidation of the Jews in the extermination concentration camps. The whole affair would be considerably accelerated by the accession of Heydrich as Reich Protector.

20.11.1945 The Nuremberg Trial began

The Nuremberg Trial began on 20 November 1945. Göring did not live to see the verdict, committing suicide in custody.
