What caused the death of Václav IV is still a mystery. Some say a stroke, others say a heart attack. Before the king died, he screamed in pain.

15.8. 1307 Henry of Carinthia became King of Bohemia again

Henry of Carinthia was judged by many as a weak ruler. He was King of Bohemia for four years. He was crowned for the second time in mid-August 1307. He was eventually succeeded on the throne by John of Luxembourg.

10.8. 1296 John of Luxembourg is born

John of Luxembourg became King of Bohemia quite easily. Shortly after his accession, however, he had to make concessions. However, he prospered beyond the borders.

4.8. 1306 Murder of King Wenceslas III.

On the hot afternoon of 4 August 1306, a vicious murderer stabbed King Wenceslas III three times while he was staying in the house of the Olomouc dean Budislav. To this day it is still unknown who carried out the deed and for what reason.

31.7. 1527 King Maximilian II is born.

After his accession to the throne, Maximilian II, as Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia and Hungary, followed his more conciliatory Catholic father. He had fifteen children. He died as a result of heart and kidney failure.

28.7. 1420 Coronation of Sigismund as King of Bohemia

Sigismund became King of Bohemia in the presence of an incomplete number of lords and Prague constables. At the same time, he knighted many knights who had no knightly deeds behind them. But the ceremonial act was useless to Sigismund anyway.

24.7. 1860 Alfons Mucha was born

Alfons Mucha is one of our most important painters. He is the author of the Slavic Epic, which is still disputed today. The turning point in his career came when his poster was commissioned by the then star Sarah Bernhardt.

23. 7. 1895

23 July 1895 General František Moravec was born

He was born in Čáslav as one of ten children of an official bailiff. After grammar school, he studied at the Faculty of Philosophy of Charles University, which he did not complete because he had to enlist in Čáslav in 1915. He graduated from officer's school and then went with the 12th Infantry Regiment to Kanizha in Hungary.

20. 7. 1944

20.7. 1944 Assassination of Hitler

The main actor in the assassination was Colonel Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg. Together with him, other opponents from the army also planned the coup. They were moved to action after the Normandy landings in June 1944.

19.7. 1883 Legionnaire Josef Jiří Švec was born

Josef Jiří Švec became one of the icons of the first Czechoslovak foreign resistance. The native could not bear the weight of the moment and shot himself on October 25 at three o'clock in the morning.
