Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard, was an infamous English pirate of the early 18th century. Between 1716 and 1718, he managed to plunder many merchant ships plying the waters of the Caribbean and Atlantic.

21.11.1344 The foundation stone of St. Vitus Cathedral was laid

In 1344 the Prague bishopric was elevated to an archbishopric and this significant change was to be symbolized by the construction of the new St. Vitus Cathedral. The foundation stone for the building was laid on 21 November of that year by King John of Luxembourg in the presence of King Charles.

11/15/1939 Funeral of Jan Opletal

Jan Opletal was shot dead by a German police during a demonstration in October 1939. His funeral turned into a large student demonstration against Nazi arbitrariness, for which the students subsequently paid a cruel tax. Some were executed, others were taken to a concentration camp.

9.11. 1034 Czech Prince Oldrich dies

In 1012, the ninth Přemyslid, Oldřich, ascended the princely throne. He grew up to be a tough and skilful politician, as he proved during the coup d'état. He ruled the country until 1034, when he died.

8.11. 1923 Beer Putsch

In 1923, NSDAP supporters organised a local political coup in Munich, which became known as the Beer Putsch. But the Bavarian authorities prevented them. Hitler was arrested and sentenced to five years in prison for treason.
