Buckles are one of the most numerous types of finds discovered by Roman archaeology in Central Europe. They were not only a functional part of clothing, but also a fashion element, a symbol of social status and belonging to the community. We find here pins produced both on the territory of the Roman Empire and the products of Germanic craftsmen. As a fashion element, the popularity of different forms changed rapidly, which is why today we know a wide range of shapes and types of buckles.

Modern 21st century technologies are playing an increasingly important role in archaeology and other historical disciplines. They give archaeology the unique opportunity to examine objects from locations inaccessible in the real world, to go back in time virtually or to view and analyse the finest details on recovered artefacts. This is clearly demonstrated by the exhibition "Great Moravian Mikulčice virtually", held between 24 August and 31 December. October 2022 by the Institute of Archaeology of the CAS, Brno, in its modern research base in Mikulčice
