A large part of Brno celebrated its liberation just three days after the Red Army arrived in the city. It happened on 23 April 1945, when Marshal Malinovsky himself gave the order for the final attack from Major General Afonin's observation post on the hill above Křepice.

Hundreds of dead were killed on 21 April 1757 at the Battle of Liberec, which was part of the Seven Years' War. The Prussian and Austrian armies clashed. Civilians subsequently died of typhus, which spread through the town.

Especially towards the end of the Second World War, the area of the Škodovka factory in Pilsen was the target of bomb attacks. However, on 16 April 1943, a mistake was made and bombs hit the nearby Dobřany, where a psychiatric hospital was located.

The fighting for Vienna lasted over a week at the end of World War II. German soldiers loyal to Hitler were ready to defend the city to the last. The parliament building, the Burgtheater and the Naschmarkt went up in flames. The Vienna operation ended at 2 p.m. on April 13, 1945.
