1.4. 1945 Battle of Okinawa begins

The fighting was so brutal that many soldiers had mental breakdowns. The Japanese committed suicide in large numbers because they didn't want to be captured by the Americans. The Battle of Okinawa lasted over three months, beginning on April 1, 1945.

31.3. 1967 General Rodion Yakovlevich Malinovsky died

Soldiers under his command liberated Brno and other parts of South Moravia at the end of the Second World War. General Rodion Yakovlevich Malinovsky wanted to join the army as a young boy. He even became Minister of Defence. He held this post until his death on 31 March 1967.

30.3. 1968 President Ludvík Svoboda

He was attracted to the war since childhood, growing up in a peasant family. During the First World War he took part in the battles at Zborov or Bachmač, and during the Second World War at Sokolov. Ludvík Svoboda became President of Czechoslovakia on 30 March 1968.

29.3 1941 Battle of Matapan

The greatest naval battle of the Second World War in the Mediterranean Sea is considered to be the Battle of Matapan. The British used an intelligence advantage to "scatter" the Italian fleet. The fighting lasted three days, ending on 29 March 1941.

28.3. 1773 General Henri-Gatien Bertrand

He accompanied Napoleon into exile and remained with the French leader until his death. Already at the Battle of Austerlitz, General Henri-Gatien Bertrand became famous for his bravery. He was born on March 28, 1773.

26.3. 1891 General Vojtěch Boris Luža

He was the only Czechoslovak general to fall during the Second World War with a gun in his hand. To this day he is one of the most prominent natives of Uherský Brod. Legionnaire Vojtěch Boris Luža was born on 26 March 1891.

25.3. 1420 Battle of Sudomera

600 years ago Jan Žižka of Trocnov won the Battle of Sudoměř. He was helped by tactics in which he took advantage of the muddy terrain, but also the thick fog. The opponents practically fought each other.

24.3. 1775 Battle of Chlumec nad Cidlinou

On 24 March 1775, the peasant army was defeated by the imperial army at the Battle of Chlumec nad Cidlinou, which suppressed the uprising. On the same day, Maria Theresa also issued a patent encouraging the peasants to return home and to work in peace.

Vasily Zaitsev was one of the best snipers during World War II. He also wrote several textbooks, taught and was a factory director himself. He was born on March 23, 1915.
