15.5. 1914 Pilot Alois Šiška was born

He is one of our most famous war veterans. He served as a pilot in the Royal Air Force and survived a crash landing over the North Sea. Alois Šiška was born on May 15, 1914, and was interested in aviation from an early age.

14.5.1562 Maximilian II crowned King of Bohemia

He was one of the tolerant rulers who knew how to maintain religious balance. Maximilian II was crowned King of Bohemia on 14 May 1562. However, he visited Prague only four times.

13. 5. 1923

13.5.1923 Charlotta Garrigue-Masaryk died

When President T. G. Masaryk learned that his wife had died, he fell to his knees and wept. He said that without her, he wouldn't have understood the meaning of life. Charlotte died on May 13, 1923, after suffering a stroke.

12 May 1743 Coronation of Maria Theresa

The ceremony of the coronation of Maria Theresa as the Queen of Bohemia was magnificent. It took place on May 12, 1743. It was an act of reconciliation, because the Bohemians did not like the monarch very much because of the betrayal of the nobility.

11 May 1859 Archduke John of Habsburg-Lorraine died

He was one of the most popular members of the Habsburg family, the youngest brother of Emperor Francis I. He also intervened in the Napoleonic Wars. The Austrian archduke and military leader John of Habsburg-Lorraine died on 11 May 1859 at the age of 77.

10 May 1940 The Battle of France began

The main goal of Hitler's westward campaign was to win France, on whose side many soldiers from the former Czechoslovakia and Poland fought. However, Germany was successful and took other countries as well. It launched its long-awaited offensive on 10 May 1940.

9. 5. 1915

9 May 1915 Battle of Arras Czechoslovak Legionnaires

By their courage, the Czech legionaries at the Battle of Arras also drew other soldiers to the attack. However, due to heavy casualties, the Nazdar Company practically ceased to exist. To this day, however, a monument commemorates it in France. The fighting began at 10 a.m. on May 9, 1915.

8 May 1394 The nobles imprisoned King Wenceslas IV.

The enemies of Wenceslas IV captured the king twice. The first time was in May 1394, when he was taken to Wildberg Castle near Linz. The feuding parties eventually struck a deal. The second time they imprisoned the monarch was in Vienna in 1402.

7 May 1765 HMS Victory was launched

An incredible 255 HMS Victory are in the service of the British Navy. She took part in both the Battle of Trafgar and the Battle of Cape St Vincent. She was launched on May 7, 1765.

6. 5. 1757

6 May 1757 Battle of Sterbohol

The Battle of Sterbohol was the second largest engagement of the Seven Years' War. It saw the Prussian army of Frederick II and the Habsburg army led by Prince Charles of Lorraine. It took place on 6 May 1757.
