The preserved city walls were discovered eight years ago by conservationists in Opava. This happened a month after an aerial bomb from the Second World War was found in the same place. The walls were approximately 800 years old.

Nine years ago the Morava River gave up its secret. Water managers drained it for the necessary repair of the Spytihněv dam and discovered the remains of an eleventh-century church at the bottom. The Gothic blocks were then gradually pulled out of the mud by archaeologists.

Hundreds of gold and silver objects were discovered in autumn 2014 by a prospector with a metal detector in Scotland. Experts say it was the rarest Viking find in the country since the nineteenth century. The depot contained bracelets, crosses and brooches.

Axes, bronze bracelets and gold hair ornaments were found eight years ago by a mathematics teacher from Ústí nad Labem when he went for a walk with his dog. He was intrigued by a path that had been ploughed by wild boars. He was the first to discover the bronze axes.

Almost 70 years after the war, Germany returned to Poland a rare painting that the Nazis stole for Hitler's museum. Specifically, it was a work by the Venetian painter Francesco Guardi, entitled "The Palace Staircase". But the search is still on for thousands of works of art that have disappeared to parts unknown.
